Paul Delani
Coach
A cycling enthusiast since 1986, had a prolific junior career, winning the junior divisional road race championships and excelling in races across Sussex, Kent, and Surrey. Quickly earning his 1st cat racing license as a senior, he declined offers from top racing teams, remaining loyal to his local club. In 1991, he showed promise during fitness testing with Louis Passfield, but a bout of Glandular Fever in 1992 hampered his potential on the national stage. Despite this setback, Paul’s passion for cycling persisted, leading him to become a key figure in the early days of trainSharp. Paul manages trainSharp’s day-to-day business operations and coaches riders globally, embodying the spirit of resilience and dedication to the sport.

How Road Race Coaching Works
Step 1

Detailed Consultation
We take time to understand your specific goals, your training history, any health/injury concerns, your lifestyle and your available training time. Using this information, we develop a personalised strategy.
Step 2

Establish a Baseline
We use a Physiological Assessment to determine your current level of fitness, your strengths and your weaknesses. This is used to draw a line in the sand and understand your potential, then used to establish your bespoke training zones.
Step 3

Training begins
Your personal coach will set you up in Today’s Plan and deliver your customised workouts, designed around your lifestyle. Then it’s over to you to put in the work, with your coach always on hand to provide support.
Step 4

Continuing Guidance
Support and feedback continue through email, phone and text as you build towards your goal(s). As you absorb the current training, it will continually progress and push you towards ultimate success.

FAQ’s
How much time do I need to train?
There is no minimum or maximum time requirements for our training packages. We specialise in creating bespoke training plans which cater to your individual requirements. The key here is to ensure the training fits around your current life commitments, in this scenario you are much more likely to adhere to the plan and ultimately improve!
I’m quite new to cycling, do you coach riders like me?
Yes! We coach all athletes, of all abilities, genders and ages. Improving performance is what we do, no matter what the level. Whether you are a complete novice looking to improve fitness or an aspiring pro, we can help.
Do I need heart rate and a power meter?
Yes and no. To get the most out of your training, having both of these pieces of equipment is useful, it will allow for full and comprehensive data analysis and also exercise prescription. However, at trainSharp we are also able to set training without these. Just let us know and we can help.
Who will be my coach?
After your initial consultation and understanding a little more about you, your needs and also your targets. We’ll match you with the best coach for you. Ensuring that your coaches strengths and aligned with your personal requirements.
What happens once I sign up?
Once you have made the decision to start your journey, as above we will match you with a coach. Following this, we’ll ask you to complete a lifestyle audit, to ensure we can set your training to the best of your needs. When we say lifestyle audit, this includes three forms; a coaching questionnaire, an information sheet and also a weekly planner. Completing these should only take around 15 minutes of your time!
I only have a short amount of time available, is coaching worth it for me?
Yes, absolutely! If you are short of time, this is when coaching becomes its most valuable. Just because you are short of time, this doesn’t mean your goals just disappear. Having a trainSharp coach means that every moment you are on the bike, you are training effectively and working towards improving a specific weaknesses. Following a plan in these occasions is imperative, let us guide you to success!
The cost of coaching seems quite expensive, is it worth it for me?
Whilst at a glance, the cost of coaching may seem expensive, but taking a moment to think about it is useful. You may spend £1000s on new wheels or a new bike, they will improve your performance only once, coaching however has the potential to improve your performance by an unlimited amount. Not only this, when you think you may have a daily cup of coffee and a sandwich, or a couple of beers in an evening. This is similar to the cost of coaching, around £5 per day.
I currently use Training Peaks, is this an issue?
No! At trainSharp, we are experts in coaching and cycling related tech. Whatever tech and programmes you currently use, we are happy to help you in ensuring these are all set up with your personal Todays Plan account. Todays Plan is compatible with all the major tech; Garmin, Wahoo, Zwift and Strava to name a few. We are also happy to transfer data where required. Want to stick with Training Peaks or other? Contact us for more information.
Is there a minimum sign up duration?
There is currently no minimum sign up duration. You may have seen that we charge a one off sign-up fee of £120. There are a few reasons for this. Namely it means we don’t have to create minimum sign up durations, so if you need to put your coaching on hold for a period, for injury as an example, that’s no issue. Additionally, it allows us to spend some time setting you up, reviewing data, creating your account and also understanding your requirements in depth.
I have another question that isn’t answered here. Can you help?
