SRM

In 2011, trainSharp, led by Jon Sharples, became the UK distributor for SRM (Schoberer Rad Messtechnik), one of the most prestigious brands in power measurement technology. SRM, founded by Uli Schoberer, is widely regarded as the gold standard for power meters, particularly among professional cyclists and teams. Schoberer is credited with inventing the power meter and pioneering the concept of training with power, a method that transformed modern cycling training and racing.

The collaboration between trainSharp and SRM enabled Jon Sharples and his team to bring world-class power measurement technology to UK cyclists, enhancing their ability to train with precision and data. This partnership allowed trainSharp to integrate SRM power meters into their coaching philosophy, which heavily emphasized performance data, such as watts per kilogram, to optimize athlete development.

SRM power meters are known for their exceptional accuracy, durability, and reliability, qualities that have kept them at the forefront of cycling technology. The relationship between SRM and trainSharp not only helped establish Sharples’ company as a leader in performance cycling coaching but also cemented SRM’s reputation as a key tool for elite and amateur cyclists alike. By distributing SRM in the UK, trainSharp gained access to a global network of cyclists who were increasingly turning to data-driven approaches for improving performance, especially with the rise of power-based training.
This relationship has continued over the years, with SRM remaining a go-to power measurement system for many top riders, teams, and coaches worldwide. The synergy between trainSharp’s coaching methods and SRM’s technology has been an essential part of their success in developing world-class cyclists.

Zwift
Steve Becket came to trainSharps hq and began the relationship – we added many workouts and tests.
Jon Sharples and TrainSharp have been pivotal in shaping partnerships that merge technology with cycling coaching, particularly through collaborations with companies like Zwift. A significant achievement was TrainSharp's involvement in setting up Zwift's first-ever "Pop Idol"-style competition aimed at finding the next pro cyclist.

This talent search, which targeted men and women and U23 riders, was a global initiative designed to give amateur riders a chance at securing a pro contract.

TrainSharp's role went beyond organizing the competition; they applied their extensive knowledge in data analytics to assess the performance of thousands of competitors. With Zwift, they were able to create a structured environment for indoor training, allowing participants to be evaluated on metrics like power output and endurance.

This digital transformation of cycling talent identification was revolutionary, giving riders from all over the world—many of whom may have been overlooked in traditional settings—a shot at making it to the professional level. The partnership ultimately showcased how a mix of tech and deep training expertise can widen the talent pool in cycling.

This competition was an extension of Zwift Academy, a program already known for identifying top talent, with notable success stories such as Leah Thorvilson, who won a pro contract through the Zwift Academy's women's competition.
